Legend of Korra – Season 3, Episode 12 – Enter The Void

Enter The Void

The finale of season 3 has finally come concluding in a two-part finale that is filled with explosive action and breathtaking scenes. Lets get on with it then …

In Enter The Void we find our heroes on their way to the Air Temple, discussing ways to best tackle the Red Lotus. Korra realises that the only way this can happen is that she gives herself up. She contacts Zaheer about giving herself up with the prospects of handing over the Airbenders, Zaheer complies to the terms, but in fact Zaheer had moved the Airbenders to a secret base without telling Korra. Before all this, we see Bolin contemplate Opal’s wellbeing and we get a glimpse of Naga and Pabu back in Zaofu with Bolin and Mako’s grandmother who has just chastised them for chewing on her son’s scarf. This gave a bit of humour to the tension of the episode so far which was needed after a while.

We see Zaheer meditating in front of a statue of Guru Laghima, he recites the words “Let go of your earthly tether. Enter the void and become nothing but wind,” P’Li enters and there is a nice moment between the two Red Lotus members, as they talk about love and a little bit about P’Li background, this scene ends with a kiss between them.

After devising a plan, Korra says her final goodbyes to everyone before they all go off with their plans. Korra and her father a nice moment before sitting off. Tonraq, Lin, Suyin and the rest of the Metal Clan soldiers lurk in the mist of Laghima’s Peak that Zaheer had ordered for Korra to meet him at, while Korra uses her glider to meet Zaheer and P’Li at the top. Bolin, Mako and Asami are given the task to retrieve the Airbenders in the temple where they meet Ghazan, who takes them to a room where they see a tied-up Tenzin on the ground and the hooded Airbenders, when Zaheer threatens the lives of the Airbenders, Korra agrees to go with them so P’Li shackles her with platinum shackles, but there is something wrong going on here for when Ghazan allows Mako, Bolin and Asami to reach Tenzin, he shakes his head as Mako goes for the Airbenders they dissolve into a pool of water revealing Ming-Hua behind them grinning menacingly at them before attacking.

Mako makes a quick radio call to Korra who hears it just in time and starts to fight Zaheer and P’Li with Tonraq and the Metal Clan assisting in the fight as well, Korra is nearly thrown off but Tonraq appears just in time and helps, not before slicing the rope holding their Airship to the Peak (Tonraq and Korra v. Zaheer – Metal Clan, Suyin and Lin v. P’Li). Back in the Air Temple, Ghazan and Ming-Hua seal the exit to the Airship leaving Mako, Bolin, Asami and Tenzin inside with Bolin using his Earthbending to keep the lava at bay. Tenzin quickly tells them of another way out, Bolin takes charge and makes the path for them to use. Despite their best efforts of fighting together, as well as Tonraq skewering Zaheer he is thrown off the cliff, by the Airbender who says “Say hello to the Earth Queen for me,” resulting in Korra fearing the worst and using her rage to fight Zaheer. However, it is later revealed that he survived the fall by a Metal Clan soldier by the name of Kuvira.

Meanwhile, Lin and Suyin fight P’Li who has cornered them behind a boulder, she tries to use her explosive fire bending to draw them out, but when Lin decides to be the one to sacrifice herself in the hopes of Lin coming up with something to defeat P’Li. After a brilliant fight scene, Lin nearly slides off the peak from P’Li’s fire bending, but just as P’Li is getting ready to fire the fatal blow at Lin, Su appears and metal bends her armour around P’Li’s head encasing the combustion resulting in her quick death. All that is left is a smoking crater.

Back at the Air Temple, things are getting a little heated for the foursome as Bolin notices that they can’t outrun the lava so he quickly makes another tunnel which comes out on the side of the mountain. They all fear the worst as a wave of lava heads towards, but Bolin  musters up the courage to take the heat. We hear him yell, but he is unharmed as he manages to bend the lava back to solidity making him a lavabender (hashtag lavabender).

Zaheer sees his girlfriend’s death which Korra takes advantage of but is soon overwhelmed by Zaheer and he starts to mutter Guru Laghima’s words to himself (“Let go of your earthly tether. Enter the void. Empty and become wind,”) as he walks off with Korra on his shoulder. Lin and Suyin metal bend over to him, but Zaheer continues to recite the words and he steps off the cliff which frightens both Lin and Suyin who runs forward to find Zaheer hovering in mid-air. (He can bloody FLY!!!!!) He zooms off with Korra, passing the Airship with Ghazan and Ming-Hua inside leading them to the secret Red Lotus base. Tonraq is seen watching as his daughter is being taken by Zaheer.

At the Air Temple, the foursome are joined by Kai who is riding on Lefty his own bison. They all climb aboard and meet the others on the ground. Tenzin noticed that Zaheer has learned the ancient ability to fly which is quickly turned to the discussion of Korra and the Airbenders’ whereabouts which Kai begins to explain but it cut across several times by Tenzin, Mako and Lin before he makes himself heard by them. Uggi, Tenzin’s own bison arrives as well for not all of them will be going to the Red Lotus base.

Meanwhile at the Red Lotus Base, we see Zaheer floating in mid-air meditating. Ghazan and Ming-Hua appear before him, contemplating his new ability. Zaheer tells them how he got the ability, but when Ming-Hua asks where P’Li is, Zaheer answers that her sacrifice came at a cost, before turning away and walking off with the other two behind him. Deep inside the cave, we find our Avatar chained with platinum she wakes up to Zaheer saying, “Your pain will soon be over,” as he calls forth two other Red Lotus members, “Bring the poison,”. For they brought the poison to Korra so they can cut the Avatar Cycle.
