The Account – European Premiere 2016 and Film Review

The anticipated premiere of Ben Affleck’s latest film got its premiere on a chilly Monday evening on the 24th September. There was much anticipation for this film and the premiere itself, for not only was it another chance to meet Ben Affleck aka The Batman aka Daredevil, again, but there was the chance of meeting Anna Kendrick of Twilight, Pitch Perfect and Into the Woods fame, and Cynthia Addai-Robinson best known for her role in Spartacus and Arrow. Personally, I wished that J.K. Simmons had made an appearance for it would have been great to finally meet Tenzin from Legend of Korra, but unfortunately he didn’t make an appearance on the red carpet.

The day of the premiere started as usual – early morning, name down on the list, get a number and just around until the wristbands for the premiere were given out. My friends and I hung around one of the many hotels in London that we somehow knew the cast were staying at, the best glimpse of a guest we got was Sharon Osbourne, and apparently Michael Fassbender, who we didn’t notice at all for we were laughing at something rather ridiculous.

After this, we headed back to Leicester Square to join the masses as we waited patiently for the premiere to start. Everything was nice, crisp and mellow that was until Mr Freeness himself, Mr Impact stepped onto the red carpet and the heavens opened revealing the deluge of water upon us fans for at least an hour (was this a hint of some kind) that was until the cast of the film stepped onto the carpet and the rain stopped.

'The Accountant' film premiere, Arrivals, Los Angeles, USA - 10 Oct 2016

I can’t remember who arrived first, but meeting Ben Affleck for a third time was great (I hope there is a fourth and a fith time, to be frank), he signed my Justice League photo exactly where The Batman is and we took a picture. Cynthia Addai-Robinson was one I was more excited to meet in fact due to the fact I missed meeting her at a convention earlier this year, I wanted to tell her that was brilliant in Spartacus but couldn’t get the words out due to all the noise and pushing, but I hope there is another chance of meeting her so I can tell her. The highlight was seeing how interactive Anna was with her fans, plus my friends have the evidence of this, it’a shame I didn’t get a selfie with Anna at the premiere but I did meet her previously. Meeting the producers Lynette Howell Taylor and Mark Williams, and finally the director Gavin O’Connor. Just as the premiere was drawing to a close, one of the security guards asked one of my friends how many of us are there and were given the opportunity to wacth the film.

FILM REVIEW

A brief synopsis of The Account: the film is an American action crime drama thriller film directed by Gavin O’Connor, and starts Ben Affleck, Anna Kendrick, J.K. Simmons, Jon Bernthal, Jeffrey Tambor, John Lithgow and Cynthia Addai-Robinson. The film follows an austic, small-town certified public accountant who has an unorthadox background and makes his living uncooking the books of dangerous criminal organisations that are experiencing internal embezzlement but gets a piece of the reward as well.

The film was nothing like I expected whatsoever. It was funny, had brilliant action scenes, great dialogue and the cast did an amazing job. The actual cast of the film was relatively small but was still impactful. Jon Bernthal and Ben Affleck had brilliant chemistry in the film and makes you wish that these two should always act together.

Anna was a sweet addition to the film making Ben’s character, Christian Wolff, feel something towards her which was both charming, sweet, but somewhat creepy (there’s a particular scene that you have to see and you will understand). J.K. Simmons and Cynthia Addai-Robinson had most of the scenes together in this film revealing that they had good chemistry and the “passing of the mantle” of some kind nearing the end of the film.

In my opinion, this was one surprising and brilliant film that I hope will continue with a sequel or two in the coming years. There were definite hints at the potential of a sequel which I hope happens. Do watch this film and enjoy it.

I will be giving this film a 9 out of 10.

Thank you.
